What is OPC?

OPC is a non-proprietary technical specification that defines a set of standard interfaces based upon Microsoft’s OLE and COM technology and is used in industrial automation and enterprise systems. The application of the OPC standard interface makes interoperability possible between automation and control applications, field systems and devices, and business and office applications.

The OPC Foundation

To ensure interoperability in the automation industry, the OPC Foundation was created to develop and maintain OPC standards and specifications. Integration Objects is pleased to be a member of the OPC Foundation and many of our OPC Server products have been Compliance Certified by the OPC Foundation.

OPC Technology

OPC technology is comprised of various specifications reflecting many different aspects of the automation industry. For detailed information about the range of specifications and for other OPC resources, the OPC Training Institute provides useful information and training opportunities that can be found on their website.

OPC software products, such as the connectivity solutions offered by Integration Objects, enable the communication of process data, alarm and event records, historical data, and batch data to multi-vendor enterprise systems and between production devices. Production devices include sensors, instruments, PLCs, RTUs, DCSs, HMIs, historians, trending subsystems, alarm subsystems, and more as used in the process industry, manufacturing, and in acquiring and transporting oil, gas, and minerals.

Integration Objects specializes in delivering highly reliable connectivity solutions between real-time systems, applications, databases, control systems, and devices. Our OPC software products offer efficient industrial communications solutions that are scalable and require low lifecycle and overhead costs. For more information on Integration Objects’ OPC family of products, see our list of OPC Solutions.
